NOLET's Lychee Gimlet ~ The latest tropical fruit gift box from NOLET's Gin was packed with sweet delicious lychees.

August 5th, 2011

A fresh delivery of tropical fruit from NOLET's Finest Gins!  After the feijoa and the delicious gin spritz we made with it, I couldn't wait to see what was in the next box!  This next shipment came with lychees.  This sweet delicious fruit from South East Asia is right at home in cocktails.  While it's typically used in desserts, it is easy enough to turn into a simple syrup and begin blending it with spirits to make wonderful tropical cocktails!

Alcohol care packages... they remind me of summer camp... but with alcohol.
The lychees came with a recipe for a NOLET's Silver Lychee Gimlet. Legend has it that the gimlet is named after a British Royal Navy Surgeon General Sir Thomas D. Gimlette who devised the cocktail as a way to get the men to take their lime juice ration.
Under their tough exterior the lychees have a bright fleshy fruit pulp. You simply boil the fruit with water and sugar until it reduces into a syrup.
The NOLET's Silver Lychee Gimlet consist of equal parts gin and lime juice with some lychee simple syrup added. The addition of the homemade syrup bind the drink together. The sugar and natural sweetness of the fruit helps cut through the acidity of the lime, while the strong botanical component of NOLET's Silver really accentuates all the citrus notes. All together it makes for a bright, refreshing, delicious drink and a great way to avoid scurvy.
