Früute ~ A brand new mini tart speciality bakery in West Hollywood, featuring beautiful tarts and some interesting flavor combinations, like yuzu and wasabi!

Small is beautiful.  It is also the best way to enjoy these rich sweet treats being baked at West Hollywood's new mini tart specialist, Früute. The new cute tiny little shop sells cute tiny little tarts which are actually very big on flavor. The variety is nearly overwhelming, but there is plenty of help available from the friendly staff. While I certainly liked some flavors more than others (I'm looking at you pecan) nothing was bad and the simple satisfying act of discovery makes these a joy to share with friends.

Before you can taste anything you are struck by the visual aesthetic of both the shop and the desserts.
The entire collection is laid out in a special refrigerated display case, ensuring that everything stays fresh and looking good even on a hot day.
Fruüte's website features some great photography of their line. And serves as a great resource in helping you choose your selection.
They offer 21 flavors at the moment ranging from the traditonal, like the three berries tart, to the exotic, like the wasabi. They've clearly had fun coming up with their offerings in both favor profile and visual design.
I opted for a small sampler to serve as an introduction. The three berry tart was a stand out. The crust and pastry cream are both delicious and well balanced against the tartness of the berries. The contrasting textures and the bright pop of flavor as the berries explode in your mouth, make for quite an experience. The citron and yuzu tarts taste strongly of their citrus infusions and pack a tremendous amount of flavor into such a tiny package. The wasabi tart on the other hand was a shining example of restraint. It had all the familiar flavors that you'd expect from years of eating sushi, but the characteristic burn was held in check. It definitely tasted strongly of that signature horseradish flavor, but Früute has tamed the wasabi beast and gotten it to play well with others.
